TORONTO!!!!

Rowan had his first plane trip last weekend for Memorial Day.  He loved the plane.  We flew Porter Airlines which is a new airline.  They only use prop planes, so they have a constant hum which the boy loved.  His ears hurt a bit on landing each way, but he was OK.

He met Adrian's grandparents for the first time and lots of other fun folks.  He's becoming a big guy!  As of Friday, he was 10 lbs. 10 oz.

Here's a pix of auntie Mel and the awesome inchworm she got Rowan.  He's almost bigger than the worm!

10 weeks old

Rowan is 10 weeks today (according to actual days, not the calendar).

We've been having a great time. We started doing yoga together this
week. Rowan loved it. This weekend, we go to Toronto to meet the
rest of Adrian's family.

He also slept a whole 4 hrs straight last night and would have slept
more, but my internal clock woke me, so I figured I might as well feed
him. Here's hoping this is a new pattern.

2 month check-up

We went to the Doc today and Rowan weighs a whopping 9.6 lbs and is 22.5 inches long.  He's in  either the 40th or 60th percentile for length (the Doc said one, then said the other, so I'm not sure which it is), but only weighs in at the 10th percentile.  Little man is catching up on weight though and the Doc isn't worried.  He poots and pees like a champ.

He had his first shots today.  Poor little guy screamed for a sec, but then he sucked away and was fine.  He's meant to be a bit fussy from it until tomorrow and might have fever, but so far, he's just sleeping it off.  The Doc said everything else looked great.  His belly button sticks out like crazy, which is apparently called "umbilical hernia" but it goes away on its own and is quite common.  It's scary looking though.  It sticks out so far you think it will explode, but I guess he doesn't feel it.  Strong little man....

Mother's Day

My first Mother's Day!

We had a great weekend.  We all went on a hike (Elijah included) up at the house on Saturday, then Adrian made me a brunch picnic in the backyard on Sunday.  He also let me get as much sleep as possible by keeping Rowan busy in the AM.  We headed back to the city Sunday afternoon to have dinner with my mom.  LOBSTER!  I was so excited as I couldn't eat lobster during the pregnancy (the mercury levels are too high).  It was great except every time we make lobster, Adrian and I feel it's too barbaric to kill them.  We always end up saying that it's the last time we will cook them ourselves and yet we always end up doing it again.  This time, "Pinchy" tried to escape the pot.

RE:  HIKE

Elijah had more fun than any of us.  He swam in mud, played fetch in the Hudson and ran around the woods for hours.  It was great.  He had to sit in the way-back in the station wagon on the way home as he stunk.

Adrian carried Rowan who chirped a few times, but otherwise, dosed off for most of the hike.

First friend

This is Rowan with his first friend, Sammy. They are so small, they
were able to fit in the same bassinet. Sammy's mom, Sara, and I met
at prenatal yoga.

Rowan was sporting a hat to shield him from the sun during stroller
aerobics. He loved it.

Sick

This is me looking like a freak when Adrian and I were sick a week
ago. I'm all for babies being exposed to germs to build their immune
systems, but our colds were so bad, we were literally sneezing on the
poor little fella. At one point, my cough became terrible and I broke
out a mask. Adrian and I never get sick,, but I guess lack of sleep
will do that to you. It lasted over a week and Adrian is still
getting over his sinus infection. Throughout if all though, Rowan
never caught a thing. Amazing!

Tuesday

It was beautiful out yesterday. What a difference it makes to not
have to bundle Rowan up every time we go out.

Rowan and I have been "strolling" once a week with a friend I met in
pre-natal yoga and her newbie, sammy. We walk along the west side
highway and chat. We also stopped by a kids park in soho and hung
out. I really haven't been to these parks since I was a kid. They're
great. We met another new mom there who was pretty overwhelmed and
compared stories. She has a 2 week old that weighs the same amount as
rowan, who will be 2 months old tomorrow! Rowan's catching up
though. He's eating and pooping up a storm!

Today we try "stroller aerobics." a friend of a friend is teaching
the class outside on one of the piers along the west side highway.
This should be interesting...

Rowan and his bouncy chair

Rowan can now hold his neck up and with this new talent comes new toys. He's loving his bouncy chair. He can sit in it forever and just happily stare and everything around. He sits in it while Adrian and I eat dinner and watches us. He also has started to really focus on things, so if you walk around the chair, he'll follow you with his eyes. He's no longer a little tadpole!

Adrian + little brother

Adrian and Rowan bond on the weekends while I do LOADS of laundry.  Adrian can't wait until Rowan gets older so he can teach him "boy things" like how to pee outside.  Elijah is an expert already!
